Houston: Tour of Breweries - Lea Carmen

Houston: Tour of Breweries

One of Isaak and I's favorite weekend activities exploring Houston has been the breweries! I am not an avid beer drinker but I have come to love the atmosphere and the tours of beer making. It is a perfect day date, family activity (we have taken my parents and brother, they loved it!), and girlfriend get together. I have put together a quick list of breweries we have been to and my experiences.

Saint Arnold's Brewery

As apart of my birthday weekend, we went to the Saint Arnold Brewery with some of our friends. It did not disappoint! Tip: get there early, the hall inside gets packed. The beer hall reminded me of a German inspired biergarten. Also, you can bring snacks, munchies. Food is available for purchase. We opted to do the brewery tour, and we were glad we did. The tour leader was very knowledgable and it was interesting to see the process.

On the weekends, there is a $10 admission charge, this includes a 10 oz glass and 4 beer tokens. Hours are 11 am- 3pm on weekends. Weekdays are 11:00 am - 4:30 pm, 10 pm on Fridays.

Menu for the restaurant

We decided to take my brother to the Karbach Brewery for his 21st birthday. Are you starting to see a trend here? :) We decided to eat inside, and the atmosphere was awesome. Dark brick, industrial inspired lighting, and delicious food. I highly reccommend the 3 Pigs Little Pizza, I'm a sucker for a good charcuterie topped pizza. We also got the Weisse Versa Battered Fish & Chips and 44 Farms Burger and both were really good. See the menu here. The actual brewery tasting was outside. Good music, plenty of seating, and dogs being allowed made for a great beer tasting experience.

From Tuesday-Saturday 11:00 am-9:30 pm, Sunday-Monday 11am-9:00 pm. The brewery (biergarten) hours are 12 -9:30 pm (Saturday)  with tours being offered on the hour from 1 pm-7pm. We got there about 3:30 and all the tours were sold out, purchase before you eat at the restaurant. Read more here.

Buffalo Bayou Brewery

Vest: Target, similar// Sweater: Tahari, similar// Jeans: Miss Me// Purse: Tory Burch, similar

On a visit to my parents, Isaak brought a case of Buffalo Bayou to my dad. He loved it. Borderline obsessed with it. Like requests a case from us whenever we visit. It is a local, newer brewery that has made a huge impact on the beer market in its infancy. This brewery has been our favorite so far. Needless-to-say we surprised my dad on a parent visit by taking them to the Buffalo Bayou Brewery. While the set-up was not as polished as the other breweries, the people were friendly and the beer was delicious.

This brewery is open to the public on Saturdays from 12-3:00pm. $10 gets you a 10 oz mason jar glass and 3 tasting. Read more here.

What local breweries do you reccommend?
