Five Tips to Shop Smarter - Lea Carmen

Five Tips to Shop Smarter

It's no secret that I shop...alot. While the assumption is that I spend a lot of money and have copious amounts of clothes, well this just isn't true! I spend more time shopping but less money on clothes. If you put in a little more work, you can save quite a bit on your wardrobe! Today I am going to share my top five ways I shop smarter and stretch your budget.

Blouse: Nordstrom (on sale!) | Jeans: 7 for All Mankind | Shoes: Gianni Bini
Sunnies: Crossroads Trading | Clutch: How Gorgeous | Phone Case: Kate Spade

Tip #1: Buy off-season

You are probably sick of hearing about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale but this is the most relevant example for this tip! Buy your clothing before or after the season it is for! For this sale, fall clothing and accessories were on sale. Some of the items you can't wear now but you will in 1-2 months. For example, I buy my swimsuits in the winter at deep discounts. Obviously I won't wear them for 4-6 months but I know that I am going to need them come summer! I would recommend to buy staples, nothing super trendy because you run the risk of it not being in style the upcoming season! Keeping with the swimsuit example stick to solid colors instead of buying a fringe swimsuit.

Tip #2: Sign Up and Keep Subscription Emails

Now I say this with caution! You obviously do not want to sign up for each and every store that you shop at and have 100 emails a day sent to your inbox. I would keep it around 20-30. Stores use their emails to market latest sales and often reward their email subscribers with exclusive shopping codes. You will be the first to know about sales and will be able to get first access before they items sell out. Every morning I will open my email and look over my email list to see if there are any major sales happening.

Tip #3: Follow your favorite stores on social media

This tip kinda goes along with Tip #2 because it is the same basic idea. Follow your favorite brands and stores on social media (instagram and snapchat are best) because stores will announce latest sales and exclusive codes on them to reward their loyal followers! I follow my favorite boutiques on instagram and they release news of a major sale days before. This is a great way to get trendy accessories on sale!

Tip #4: Shop at the Outlets

I am such a fan of outlet shopping! I like to shop for major designer brands at the outlets because hello they have the best discounts for the brands that you actually want. If you are in Texas, these are my favorite outlets: San Marcos Premium Outlets, Katy Mills, and Cypress Outlets. Keep in mind that some of these stores are outside or are huge so plan a day or afternoon outing!

Tip #5 : Shop on Major Holidays

Hear me out on this one because I know people are going to say holidays are for spending time with loved ones! I could not agree more, however brands offer steep discounts on these days. My favorite holiday shopping is obviously Black Friday! With technology you can actually shop most if not all Black Friday Sales on your laptop or iPad, you don't even have to leave your home! My second favorite holidays to shop are After Christmas Sales and Memorial Day. I would save up for these sales and buy bigger ticket items like appliances and electronics. Pro Tip: Follow Brad's Black Friday guide, they release leaked Black Friday Ads weeks in advance!

I hope these tips help you stretch your fashion fund!

Lea
